Background:  Made for the Dust the teddy ‘Afraid of Death’ series, the painting depicts a group of teddys standing before a wood background splattered with black paint.  Dust has placed them in a dark and barren environment.  There is little indication of place save for a silhouette of a bare tree.  By portraying a teddy bear, a universal symbol of cute and cuddly, gripping a gun, Dust presents the viewer with a very serious contradiction.  The biggest teddy towers over the rest of the group, armed and ready.  We as viewers are left to contemplate about the narrative taking place.  At whom are the teddys looking?  Are they being hunted? Or are they the hunters?  There is a sense that The Teddys Cruel tells a story about nature taking its revenge on humanity after enduring years and years of abuse and destruction.
